In this special prelude event to the Canberra Writers Festival 2017, Dava Sobel shares her methods and key insights from her most recently published work, The Glass Universe. The Glass Universe explores the lives and history of the remarkable women whose contribution to astronomy changed the study and understanding of our universe forever.

SPECIAL EVENT: Opening Night Dinner with Matthew Evans
Thursday 24th August 2017 – National Portrait Gallery
Join us as we celebrate the opening of the 2017 Canberra Writers Festival with an evening of food, wine and conversation. Special guest, Matthew Evans (former chef and food critic turned Tasmania smallholder) talks about his cookbooks, his life as a farmer and his upcoming projects. Included is a two-course meal, complimented with wine, and after dark opening of the National Portrait Gallery.

KEYNOTE: Girls Night In: Live and Dangerous

Celebrate the closing of the Canberra Writers Festival in good company with “Girls’ Night In: Live and Dangerous”. Meet the women who love being women. They’re not afraid to say what’s on their minds, they’re ready to make their point poignantly and with poise, and they’re willing to share the awkward situations that got them here. This fun-filled and light-hearted prelude to the CWF 2017 Official After-Party will showcase sassy smarts and literary laughs -- brace yourself for an evening of no-holds-barred hilarity!
