Frank Bongiorno is a historian of Australia, Professor of History at the Australian National University and Distinguished Fellow of the Whitlam Institute, Western Sydney University. He was previously a Senior Lecturer at King’s College London and the University of New England, and was Smuts Visiting Fellow in Commonwealth Studies at the University of Cambridge in the 1997-98 academic year.

Frank has served as Chair of the Literature and History Committee of the New South Wales Ministry of the Arts and as Head of the School of History at the ANU. He is currently President of the Australian Historical Association.

Frank is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia and the Australian Academy of Humanities, and a Member of the Order of Australia. He is the author of several books on Australian history, including the Sex Lives of Australians: A History (2012) and The Eighties: The Decade That Transformed Australia (2015), both of which won ACT Book of the Year. His most recent book is Dreamers and Schemers: A Political History of Australia (2022).
